Web Design and Development
This course is aimed at those who have an interest in Web Design. The course will enable participants to acquire the necessary skills and knowledge to design and develop their own web site. By the end of the course, participants will have developed their own web site.
Duration 14 weeks Mondays 7 pm—9:30 pm
Outline Good web site design principles Determine the audience and purpose of the site Web site organisation best practices Create a table of contents, site map, and workflow diagrams Describe and implement different navigation schemes to link web pages Web Page Creation Use HTML tags to prepare text for web page viewing Create web documents incorporating text and graphic elements Arrange backgrounds, colours, and fonts Utilize tables to enhance page layout Apply frames to assist navigation Create and use style sheets to customise web page layout Place an email link in a web page Multimedia Content Create image-maps, buttons, and logos Graphic file formats, settings and suitability Thumbnails and picture galleries Simple animation techniques Use Photoshop Elements to edit images Hosting, Maintaining and Updating a Website Domain names Purchasing space to host a website Hit counters
Prerequisite A solid foundation in the general use of computers.
